Ssssshaaaaa...
— Scrapdragon upon meeting Maxwell Puckett for the first time (Chapter 2, Page 20Pnat)

Scrapdragon is the name of the spirit possessing Max's bat. It has yet to be officially named in-comic (outside a brief reference from Max),[1] but its name was confirmed by Zack Morrison on their Tumblr.

Appearance[]

Scrapdragon is a black serpent that's easily as large as the Ghost Train while in Grudge form. It has three horizontal slits in its face that open up to reveal either two nostrils on each side, three eyes on each side, or a mouth with sharp teeth and a tongue. These can be either blue or red colored (similar to the colored poles on most magnets) and Scrapdragon can choose which facial feature is in which slit, duplicating features into multiple slits (with both being a separate color) if it so chooses. This appearance is revealed to be Scrapdragon's Grudge state by Boss Leader in Chapter 4; its true appearance is not currently known.

In Chapter 4, the weakened wisp form of Scrapdragon can be seen in Max's subconscious during his dream meeting with Boss Leader. In this form, the spirit is substantially smaller, around the size of Max's arm, although it still appears to be in a Grudge state.

Personality[]

According to Boss Leader, Scrapdragon is a grudge, causing it to be more violent and bestial than its unseen true form. That being said, Scrapdragon doesn't seem capable of much thought or understanding, behaving much like a curious animal during its first meeting with Max, before throwing him off the Ghost Train in a panic after he bumped it with his bat. Scrapdragon also appears to have some degree of control over its usage while contained in a tool, as it attracts a can to the bat without prompting in Chapter 2 and refuses to pull Max back into the train when he falls out in Chapter 4.

Chapter 2[]

Scrapdragon pulls Max into a spirit trance as Max is being attacked by Gorf, with its face closed and facing Max from outside the now-dilapidated Corner Store. Max swivels his head to look at it, and it opens its face to reveal nostrils, three blue eyes in the center and a mouth. It makes a soft hissing noise as Max expresses confusion, and the trance state ends. Shortly afterward a soup can whizzes through Gorf and barely misses Max's face, cracking the glass behind him; this is later revealed to be the first use of Scrapdragon's magnetic powers.

Chapter 4[]

Max is pulled into Scrapdragon's heightened perception state while clinging on to the top of the runaway Ghost Train. The spirit apparently didn't do this consciously, as it is busy munching on scrap when Max appears. After becoming aware of Max's presence, Scrapdragon covers itself in random metallic pieces to form makeshift armor and stares at him. The snake sniffs him suspiciously and lets out a soft hiss, and Max attempts to use the advice Isabel Guerra gave him earlier to be assertive and lessen his fear of the giant snake. This results in Max swinging his bat and accidentally bonking Scrapdragon at the tip of its face. Scrapdragon screeches in response and uses its magnetic control to repel everything from it in a panic, propelling Max off of the train. As Max is about to smash into the ground, he is suddenly halted by an unseen force; Max loses consciousness and floats gently in an arc to the ground.

During Max's conversation with Boss Leader in his dream, Scrapdragon's weakened form attempts to attack her, only for her to use her abilities to trap it in a small cage. Boss Leader examines the spirit and informs Max that it's a Grudge, a more powerful form caused by its fear and rage. She offers to destroy it for Max, but he declines, saying that he could throw the tool away if endangered and that it might respond with gratitude for being spared.

Max awakens from his dream to find the Ghost Train heading straight for him. He tries to get out of the way, but Scrapdragon has used its power to trap him to the railing between the metal tool and the pieces of metallic junk Max had kept in his backpack. Max is spared from the Train's wrath by Agent Day, who fires a Love Arrow at it to make it fall in love with him so that it wouldn't hurt him, and Scrapdragon releases its hold.

Hosts[]

  • Max Puckett- Scrapdragon doesn't seem to possess an understanding of who or what Max is and behaves like a curious animal around him. It coats itself in protective scrap to investigate Max in Chapter 4 before being startled and throwing him away from it. It also seems to have some form of control over its power while still in its Tool, as it attracts a soup can to the bat at such a speed that it breaks the glass behind Max in Chapter 2, as well as not attracting Max to the roof of the train, not attracting Max back to the train when he falls out, and getting Max stuck to the rail line between the tool and the bits of scrap metal in his backpack as the Ghost Train is approaching.

Abilities[]

Time Snake

During Max's spirit trance, lots of scrap appears around the area.

Magnetic Master[]

The spirit can attract and repel metal in enormous quantities. In the vision Max saw atop the Ghost Train, it coated itself in a veritable suit of armor out of scrap metal[2], and could send all the nearby scrap flying outwards with a single repulsive roar[3].

Trivia[]

  • Every time Scrapdragon pulls Max into a spirit trance, the same stop sign can be seen in the junk piles.
  • Scrapdragon (with Max atop of it) makes up the page banner on the Paranatural website. Mousing over its face makes it open, revealing two blue nostrils on the top, three red eyes in the middle, and a blue mouth at the bottom.
  • According to Zack, if Max were to be possessed by Scrapdragon as a medium, he would eventually take on the following attributes: "Sharp teeth, snake nostrils, probably like red and blue eyes… it'd probably affect his posture and the curviness of his limbs. If he kept it past the point where it had recovered, he’d probably end up with its skin color and the face closing stuff."[4]
